Reading

I just wrapped up my first year of teaching at Seneca Elementary School.  I have to say I am very fortunate to be part of an amazing second grade team.  Since the beginning of the year, we have been working on the transition to CCSS from our previous GLEs.  In order to prepare our students, we have completely revamped the way we teach reading.  Rather than just focusing on the story, we have put a big emphasis on the skills and strategies.  As a result, the students are really able to apply what they have learned as the create their "test" each week.  I am amazed at what the students are able to do once the ideas start flwoing. The best part is seeing the excitement and look of accomplishment on their little faces.  We will continue to tweak our units as we need to in order to best meet the students' needs, but I definitely feel that we are on the right track.  Now, for math...
